Therapists

Angela Williams (she/her)

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist practicing within Ventura County, Pasadena, and the greater Los Angeles area. As a Clinician, I like for potential clients to know that my work as a therapist is based out of my passion for people, my personal experience as a wife, mother, and person of color, and the overall desire to help individuals achieve optimal mental health, in whatever stage of life they may be. I place a tremendous amount of value on the therapeutic relationship. Our work together is a collaborative partnership, where I hope to serve as a guide on your journey to fulfillment, or your pathway to healing.

My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgemental environment where one can feel treated with respect and dignity. Whether your struggle is with stress, anxiety, trauma, grief, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem, aging, or teenaging, we ALL have areas of our lives that stand to benefit from the care of a mental health professional. I can honestly say being a mom to young adults, I truly understand how difficult it can be to navigate the challenges of parenting post pandemic, and the pros and cons to the evolution of social media. I’m passionate about working with the African American community, and other communities of color, to raise awareness, and dispel the myths and stigma behind mental health services, to expose its value and benefits. I practice from an integrative approach, where my interventions will always cater to the needs of each individual client. I look to aid clients in discovering solutions, gaining self-awareness, understanding attachment, and modifying behaviors.

I'm trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and it’s been my honor to have been trusted to work with sexual assault and domestic violence survivors in both the non-profit and private sectors. As a therapist, I’m committed to guiding each client in achieving their personal, relational, and healing goals. Congratulations on taking this courageous step in your journey!

     Anil Shah  (he/him)

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

My therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that genuine human connection, empathy, and a little bit of laughter have the potential to transform any situation. I work side-by-side with my clients to build trusting and collaborative relationships. Think of me as your team-mate, cheering you on, and guiding you to uncover what holds you back.

Sometimes it’s a lack of belief in ourselves, or our childhood wounds getting the better of us. Sometimes it’s the stories that we tell ourselves about who we are and what we deserve. More often than not, what holds us back is a fear of change, of the unknown, and of asking for help.

As a bi-racial man, I understand the unique experience of what it means to live in two worlds. Because of this, I love working with people who are struggling with their own identity or those who feel like they don’t quite fit, whether that be in their families, their faith, or even within themselves.  I have a special place in my heart for those who are struggling with how religion fits into their life, especially those in the LGBTQ community.

I’ve been trained in EMDR, IFS, and various theoretical orientations, but I believe every client deserves their own roadmap, and that not all tools work for every situation. So I tailor each session and treatment plan to suit the needs of every individual or couple I work with. My commitment to learning ensures I stay up to date on the latest techniques. Whether aiding healing in adults or strengthening connections in couples, I strive to empower my clients to live compassionately, courageously, and authentically.

  • I became a therapist because of my own transformative experience in therapy, earning a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology. I also hold a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction and have 20 years of experience in education, a background I find benefits my work with children, adolescents, families, and other educators. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds who struggle with challenging beliefs and behaviors, communication issues, anxiety and depression, difficulty forming and maintaining relationships, trauma, faith deconstruction, and LGBTQIA+ identity processing. I value the intersectional cultures each person brings to therapy and strive to understand the unique perspective and influence this brings to each person’s life.

Jeffrey Yeom (he/him)

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

My journey to becoming a therapist started with serving children and adolescents as a mentor and tennis coach for both boys' and girls' varsity high school teams. I have always cared deeply for the next generation, where tennis was secondary to making sure they felt valued beyond their abilities. I have held various roles centred around serving others and connecting with people including taking on the role of caretaker for elderly family members. This reinforced how vital relationships are, especially in the final stages of life.

Because I was fascinated by unfamiliar cultures and languages outside of my Korean identity, instead of pursuing college tennis, I chose to study abroad in South Africa, engaging in mission work in Turkey, and participating in mental health service work at an orphanage in Kenya.

  • I am fluent in both Korean and English, have a moderate grasp of Spanish vocabulary, and have acquired some basic phrases in Zulu, Turkish, and Swahili.

I am the son of an immigrant, widowed mother and was raised with values like hard work, community, service, and entrepreneurship from my parents. Recently, I adopted Gus, a clumsy German shepherd mix from the humane society, who I named after Gus Gus from Cinderella.

In my career, I have had the privilege of serving Asian/Asian American, Black, and Latinx communities, which has been a truly rewarding experience. It is essential to understand my clients’ diverse cultural backgrounds and collaborate with them and their families to achieve mental health goals that are culturally appropriate. This approach has fostered openness and trust, allowing my clients to engage with my feedback and mental health education, creating strong, meaningful relationships that I deeply value.

Clinically, I have worked with clients facing stress and burnout in both work and school environments. I have addressed anxiety and depression related to family dynamics, romantic relationships, and identity struggles.  I have supported clients through healing from sexual trauma by helping them better regulate their body’s responses, validate their emotions, remove self-blame, and reframe self-limiting thoughts.  My therapy work focuses on reframing values and beliefs that are not helpful for many of my client’s, often coming from harmful childhood experiences, and negative nonverbal or implicit messages.

I have provided psychoeducation, coping strategies, crisis interventions, and even spiritual guidance to the elderly in my community, introducing mental health in a way that helped them overcome shame and understand its importance.

I value collaboration between the client and therapist. Instead of telling clients what to do, I focus on empowering them to handle life's challenges independently. While the duration of therapy varies for each person, my goal is for clients to reach a point where they no longer need me.

Kendra Valdez (she/her)

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

As a licensed clinical social worker, I have enjoyed a life enriching career as a trauma informed specialist for more than 30 years.  I focus on trauma, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, recovery from abuse/addiction, attachment wounds, and struggles related to gender/sexuality and faith/spirituality. I work with families, couples, adolescents, LGBTQIA, and young adults.

My attachment-focused psycho-dynamic orientation is developed from years of personal experience and training across a range of related specialties.  I have former experience as a children’s social worker, supervisor and trainer in the public child welfare arena, where I developed a deeper awareness of attachment wounds occurring from foster care and adoption practices.

  • I have worked in the non-profit sector as a supervisor, coordinator, and director in various mental health programs (which include Wraparound, Systems of Care, TBS, and Family Preservation). My life has been enriched by service in diverse communities, school based mental health, as well as outreach and program development for unhoused youth in Los Angeles County.

I have learned to apply skills from training in family systems and mediation to help families heal from relational abuse. Using a person centered approach, motivational interviewing, and personal experience with the 12-step recovery model, I have witnessed individuals and families overcome the effects of addictions. I have found that various modalities such as DNMS and EMDR protocols, have proven useful for treating attachment wounds and those effected by complex PTSD, including dissociation.

I embrace my cultural roots as a descendent of the Turtle Mountain band of Chippewa Indians, as well as my Norwegian, French, German, and Polish heritage. I am conversant in Spanish. My life and practice has been enriched by serving multi-ethnic communities, predominately African American, Latino, and American Indian clients. I am aware of how culture and spirituality deepen the meaning of our lives, build strength and resilience, and can increase the efficacy of treatment as we honor these dimensions of ourselves.
